Family Rules

The notion of "family rules" is the unspoken lists of acceptable/unacceptable behaviors, it can help make sense of a family. Some of these rules could include taking your shoes off before going in the house, dad controls the TV remote, no one leaves the dinner table until everyone is done eating, etc. The rules may not be posted on a “rule board” for everyone to see but they are rules that the family just simply follows. One thing that I would like to point out is that rules are usually understood when they are violated. For example, the very first time I went to meet my boyfriends parents (now he is my husband), I walked in his parents home with my shoes on and was told in a matter of seconds to take my shoes off. Taking off their shoes was a family rule that was greatly respected. Since being married, my husband and I have also taken on that family rule.

I now have a challenge for you… take a couple minutes to think of what your family rules are. You may be surprised at how many you can come up with!

Role of womanhood

I believe on role a woman has is to have children because that is what our bodies are designed to do. I also think it is important that we raise our children and not have someone else raise and take care of them via daycare. I am happily pregnant with my first child and she is due December 27th. I am so excited to nurture and raise my daughter with the support of my husband. Over the past several years there has been a lot of talk on how many children a family should have and that the world will soon be overpopulated. The Population Bomb written by Paul Ehrlich states that the world is becoming over populated. However, the truth is, is that the world’s birth rate is decreasing and from the looks of it the population will soon decrease. Society doesn’t have the right to say how many children a family has. I believe that it should be decided between a husband, wife and God. Stay in tune for my thoughts next week…

Welcome!

My name is Justine Harper and I am 20 years old. I was married last year in April to the love of my life, Jacob Harper. I am working towards a degree in Marriage and Family Studies with an emphasis in Home and Family. I still have 2 years left of school but it will be a challenge with our first baby girl coming in December. When I am not in school or doing homework I really enjoy relaxing. I also enjoy being in the outdoors like camping, dirt biking, hiking and skiing. One hobby that I enjoy doing indoors is sewing. I get numerous ideas from Pinterest and it makes me feel creative and accomplished when I finish a project. I have created this blog as an assignment for my class called Family Relations (FAML 160). I would love to gain an appreciation for blogging and hope this will spark something in me to continue to blog for years to come!

Here are some of my favorite engagement pictures:
